A Letter to Those Who Voted for the Dictator’s Son

I will never look at you the same way again.

It’s a Monday night. My heart beats fast, it keeps pace with the music I play on my laptop. My fingers type hurriedly, trying to keep pace as the words racing through my mind. Normally, I would let my writings sit in the back of my mind, only to edit the things I ought to remove. But not this time.

This is raw. Unfiltered. This is me, a Filipina who is fighting for the Philippines. We are angry.

If you voted for the late dictator’s son, know that I will never look at you the same again. I will look at you with disgust, with pity, with hatred, with judgement. And no, I will not let you play the “you’re a Christian and you shouldn’t judge” card. Yes, I am a Christian. But so are most of you.

The moment you have shaded his number on the ballot, you have shaded our country’s doom. Know that in the history books, our children will see you as one of those who enabled the thief to go back to the Malacanang Palace. You have enabled a thief, a murderer, and a fascist to rule the Philippines. I will not forgive you for the choice you have made.

I write this with anger. I write this with the intention to go out to the streets either rejoicing or fighting for a revolution.

I write this with sadness as I see my teachers, who have taught me the difference of right and wrong, vote for the person who has wronged us. I write this with disgust as I read the posts of my friends, who I have laughed and cried with, cheer for a murderer and a spreader of misinformation. I write this with hatred for all the people I know who refuse to open their eyes, even when the truth is flashing right before your eyes.

Know this. I will not forget what you have done.

By voting for the murderer, you have shown you are willing to blind yourselves and let history repeat itself. You have revealed you won’t mind that people will be killed as long as you experience “the good and quiet times” some people have during the Marcos era. By voting for Bong Bong Marcos, you have revealed that you only care for yourself, not for your future kids, or for those who cannot stand for themselves, or even for the betterment or future of the Philippines.

Yes, this piece is messy, rambling, and confusing even. But this is unfiltered and raw.

And in writing this piece, I know I’m burning bridges, but I refuse to be friends or even be associated with people who support a thief, a liar, an enabler, a spreader of misinformation, and a murderer.

And to the ones who voted on the right side of history,
Sabay tayo lalakad sa EDSA, may isa pang rebolusyon na magaganap. Tumindig para sa Pinas!
(Let’s walk alongside at EDSA, let’s have another revolution. Let’s stand strong for the Philippines!)

Pilipinas, history has its eyes on you.
